SIMPLE PAST

Pese a lo que muchos puedan creer, el pasado simple es otra muestra de la hermosa sencillez de la gramática inglesa: ya sea que se trate de un verbo regular (que forma su pasado con -ED) o de un irregular (consultar la lista de verbos en su segunda columna), la conjugación no cambia según el pronombre como pasa en el presente simple (¿recuerdan la -S cuando el sujeto es HE, SHE o IT?). El único auxiliar para el pasado es DID, y como dice la Regla de Oro de los auxiliares: cuando un verbo está afectado por cualquier auxiliar, el mismo debe estar SIEMPRE en infinitivo. O sea, que si es regular se le quita la -ED y que si es irregular el verbo vuelve a la primera columna. Uno de los verbos que se aparta de estos lineamientos es el famoso TO BE, que posee dos conjugaciones: WAS (cuando el sujeto el I, HE, SHE o IT) y WERE (para YOU, WE y THEY) Además, el BE no utiliza el auxiliar, así que para interrogar se debe dar colocar primero el verbo y para negar se usan las contracciones WASN'T y WEREN'T. Sencillo, ¿verdad?. Para aplicar aquellos conceptos que ya están viendo en clase (con mucho más detalle de lo que apareció en esta introducción, obviamente) les dejamos dos regalos: el primer enlace es una lista de verbos irregulares bastante completa que incluye los significados en castellano. Sugerimos que la bajen y la impriman para su consulta. El segundo enlace conduce a un ejercicio de "Reading Comprehension" en el que primero deberán poner los verbos en pasado (los irregulares están subrayados, así saben cuando es necesario chequear la lista) y luego responderán preguntas sobre el texto.
